Hey guys, back here for some more knowledge. I am currently stable @ 4.3 ghz with my i5 3570k + z77 pro 3. Apparently this motherboard z77 pro 3 cant OC this i5 3570k over 4.3ghz, so my questions for you are:
1. Is the motherboard the main dictator of how far you can OC the CPU?
2. Which motherboards have the best OC capabilities? (currently looking for a z77 extreme 4 thats the only one ive been recommended so far)
3. Is the jump from 4.2ghz to 5ghz going to be noticeable or is anything after 4.3ghz kind of obsolete?
4. Air or Water cool? And which cooler would you recommend?

Note: Looking for affordability, if possible. I know the best mobo can OC to the moon, just asking for a budget mobo and cooler you think can get the work done of OC to 4.8 to 5.0ghz

Thank you, hope to see you guyses opinions!

1. Is the motherboard the main dictator of how far you can OC the CPU?
Its typically the cpu. The cpu are not all created equal. Some will just overclock better than others due to the way the chips are manufactured.
2. Which motherboards have the best OC capabilities? (currently looking for a z77 extreme 4 thats the only one ive been recommended so far)
There many great overclockers among z77 boards. z77 extreme 4 is very good.
3. Is the jump from 4.2ghz to 5ghz going to be noticeable or is anything after 4.3ghz kind of obsolete?
It depends what you will be doing. If its a cpu intensive game like gta you could see an improvement.
4. Air or Water cool? And which cooler would you recommend?
Either is good. A larger air cooler and water...

Either is good. A larger air cooler and water cooler will perform very well. I would typically advise people to get in AIO for heavy overclocking like 100i.

Thanks alot bro, great answer format, very organized and precise, thats whats up!

I play Battlefield 4 and a little of other games here and there. Currently at 4.2ghz I have no issues with any games. I want to OC to 5.0 to better multitask and stuff.

Ill keep looking for that z77 Extreme 4, thanks alot!
