Is it better to have more RAM and slower speeds, or less ram at higher speeds?

My computer had 2 sticks of 8 GB of RAM at 1866hz and I found 2 sticks of RAM in another old computer that were 2GB at 1300hz. I put them in my computer and now have 20GB, but the speed has gone down to the slower RAM for all sticks. So which is better to have?

You won't even be maxing out 16gb's, so the extra 4gb is doing nothing, apart from slowing down your entire system.

I would definitely take the extra sticks out and stick (haha, get it?) with the 16gb you had initially.

Hope this helped.

I use my computer for creating music (Through FL Studio) and for gaming. All the RAM I have installed is from Kingston, but the set I found is about 4 years old. I have been noticing strange things that have been happening when I tab out of games. Like the screen will go black and I'll have to restart my computer to get it back to normal. Hmm... Now that I think about it, that might be the reason why that started happening.
