i just got a brand new AMD FX-8350 and a ASUS M5A 78L-M/USB3 and my pc started shutting down after about 5-10 min of gaming(with asus anti surge error)but it dosent shut down while watching videos or surfing the web
my other parts are
PSU: Linkworld Brilliant Power 550W ATX (LPK19-35) (5+years old)
RAM: kingston hyper x blue 8gb ddr3 (2.5 yrs old)
GPU: N660 gaming 2gb/oc (gtx 600 chipset) (1.5 yr old)
and a 320 GB HDD
(i didnt have this problem with the amd athlon x2 280 and ASUS M5A 78l-M LX3,and i tried putting these back to check if the psu died but they still work normaly)
(i was searching around the web quite a bit and the most common thing to cause the problem is the PSU but i wanted to be sure since i just spent 250$ on the cpu and mobo and i dont want any unnecesary splurging )
if anyone could shed some light on the matter i would be grateful

Solution
Unless the info that I found is incorrect, that PSU provides a single 6-pin (75W) PCI Express connector; therefore it definitely can't deliver 550W. If it did, it would include two 8-pin PCI Express connector. Get a quality 550W PSU and your issue will be resolved. Bear in mind that you were using a 65W TDP CPU and you now use a 125W TDP CPU. Select a tier 3 or better PSU: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html A Tier 1 or Tier 2 is preferred.

honestly, your no name PSU is getting old, I would have probably start thinking about replacement in a couple of years even if it were a Seasonic/Power Flower/or some other tier 1 PSU. also the anti surge warning from the mobo (I'm assuming that's where it came from) but still...

try reinstall video card driver (newest from nvidia)
try reinstall windows
the above is to eliminate software issues
now to hardware issue

first try update your bios (asus website)
first try clear cmos (bios) (refer to mobo manual)
new cmos battery (refer to mobo)

try memtest -- if fail, memory problem.
try prime95/aida stability test. -- if fail, cpu problem
try furmark --if fail, video card problem.

Yes.

you can download something called OCCT and it will monitor your PSU voltages.
e.g. 3V. 12V 5V and -3 -12 -5V and some other voltages.
run the test and 1. see if they are close to their defaults (if 3V is at 2.9V or 3.1V you are still ok, but if idling at say 2.5V for 3V then you probably got a problem. and 2. when running the OCCT test, does the voltages flutuate?

ok i ran the OCCT and i'm 99% sure its the psu by now check this out : http://imgur.com/1WOBI3r
and btw i started the test and 15 min in the PSU started getting hot so i turned the test off can i ask the last thing do you think "LC POWER LC600H-12 600W" Or "500W Raidmax RX-500XT" would be able to run my specs without a problem for a few months till i can save up for a high quality one ,and if these 2 wont work can you suggest something that could hold out for a few months (around 40$ if possible)?

no idea...rly but its very old i'd say 5-7 yrs maybe a bit more even, it does look a bit odd i admit but all of my other components are ether new or new-ish and work perfectly fine

the OCCT may not be monitoring correctly. go in to bios when the splash pic come up, press the del button or f2 button.
go into something called power monitoring and it will tell you the same thing, see if the figure is like those in occt (the figures are those while idling).

Since you are just buying a bandage while you are saving for a real quality PSU, go with the one that's newer and with a higher wattage. see how many amps are on the 12V (they should tell you on the back/side of your PSU). you want the one with the higher number. (sometime the one that says X00 W may be blowing their own horn and really can't deliver.)

the numbers seem normal in the bios (3.3 is 3.28 5 is 5.07 and 12 is 11.87)
could it still be the psu or is it something else?
(i tried playing again, and again after 5 min crash and it started heating up,but it doesn't do that with the old parts)
