DVI to VGA adapter question.

So i started building Pc's for customers and one of the PNY videocards came with a DVI-VGA adapter and i decided to try it out and i think it looks fine. I was expecting a loss in quality actually or maybe i'm not seeing straight.

Anyway my question is: does a DVI to VGA adapter degrade quality of the signal? If the Videocard outputs DVI-D and sends it through a VGA cable does the signal quality weaken or does it stay the same? Will the signal sent through the VGA cable be digital or analogue?

My guess is it will stay the same, but i'm not sure.

"does a DVI to VGA adapter degrade quality of the signal?" Yes, a bit. But you have to look closely or have them side by side to tell sometimes. Text is easier to read...

"does a DVI to VGA adapter degrade quality of the signal?" Yes, a bit. But you have to look closely or have them side by side to tell sometimes. Text is easier to read with digital. There is signal loss going from digital signal to analog. Brightness will be less as well. https://cabovga.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/dvi_vs_vga1.jpg

"If the Videocard outputs DVI-D and sends it through a VGA cable does the signal quality weaken or does it stay the same?" First, the DVI output must be DVI-I (integrated) to have a VGA signal present. DVI-D is strictly digital. Same answer as for above.

"Will the signal sent through the VGA cable be digital or analogue?" If the signal leaves the card's DVI-I port via a VGA adapter and a VGA cable, the signal going across the wires in the cable will be analog. Here's why... The DVI-I port on the card has two signals; analog and digital. Look closely at the connector. The 4 round holes to one end with the bar between them are for the analog signal; used only if there is an adapter plugged in. Otherwise, they are not used. http://forum.clubedohardware.com.br/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=http%3A%2F%2Fi.stack.imgur.com%2F6K4tr.png&key=84af5c1151da1bcda746b61724352555e1d0c3e821327b1ab61726122901e88e
