I have a windows ten computer, and I went to msconfig to change my cores all the way up, easy. But then I changed my memory up to the highest and now my computer won't fully boot. My friend had this problem as well and fixed it with YouTube. but I have no idea how to fix it can someone pls help me, all I need to know is how to turn my ram back down

Solution

I'm not sure who started this crap but I wish people would stop. The default is unchecked which allows it to use as much as it wants anyway as well as it ONLY affecting the boot process. They are debug settings what you have done is disable the RAM.
Basically don't touch unless you have a very specific reason to! That includes the CPU setting as well!

Anyway You either...

i meant to change my value to 0 so taht my computer could use it as it needed. i accidentally set it to its max value and pressed apply then restarting it. i have heard of people getting this problem, and that command prompt might help but i really have no idea how to fix this.

Anyway You either need to get to the recovery console (F8 on boot up or install CD) or fire up a offline regedit CD like PCregedit.

The Cmd line is the easiest.

In the command Prompt, type bcdedit
Look for the Windows Boot Loader entry that contains an item named truncatememory
Note the identifier for that entry, it may be {default} or {current}, or a long GUID like {8eea9b82-d5b1-11de-9d24-80972e3a13c7}
Enter this command:
bcdedit /deletevalue identifier truncatememory
replacing identifier with the correct one you noted for that entry.

ill try that. i wasn't trying to change the memory only the cores, i hit it by accident. And I was changing the cores cause mine had been reset back to one instead of using all four

Don't mess with the CPU settings either. It doesn't even act by cores it acts on entire processors.

really? not even cores, i have checked how my cpu runs when i only have 1 core running. everything runs better. Whats the use of having a quadcore processor if only one core is activated?

That is not what that msconfig setting does. It allows you to disable entire processors not individual cores during the boot process only for debugging purposes. It doesn't change anything during the actual running windows session anyway. To enable or disable cores for a windows session that must be done by the BIOS.

then why did my computer go faster by about 100 frames on games when i enabled them all? not meaning to be rude i jsut dont understand why it speeded up so much

There is something else going on then if you got 100 FPS increase without some new hardware. Three reasons.

1) that setting only matter during boot and once the OS kernel is fully booted it would have automatically enabled all CPU's regardless of that setting. It would be beyond stupid of Microsoft to disable all cores but one on processors for their OS by default (would equal a much lower performance and make windows look even worse) and make it so the only way to enable the full processor is a rather obscure setting.

2) 100 FPS increase is an absurd number number for any simple CPU change even comparing an i3 to an i7 usually at most will increase around 30 FPS or so. That bench even has the i3T and it's within 30 FPS or so of it's i7K big brother at worst and normally much closer than that. Few games are in anyway CPU bound.

3) If getting an extra 100 FPS was really as easy as clicking a check box on one menu the it would literally be on every gaming tweak guide, website, or blog on the internet.

when i say 100 extra i was probably exagertaing. more like 50-60 frames extra, i just still dont understnad then if that doesnt do anything why it would speed it up so much

Verified numbers are important.
100, or 50-60, or 5.....
