The title describes pretty much what's happening. I'm trying to fix this really old computer. I don't even think it's worth fixing but the customer wanted me to do it.
What he described was that the computer wouldn't turn on or would turn on only to immediately turn off without even showing anything on the screen.
I've been testing it since yesterday, reseating every connector I could. Today, after many tests I found the problem goes away (the turning off one) when I disconnect the CPU power supply cable from the motherboard. But I'm not sure if this means the issue is with the CPU, the motherboard or the power supply (I hope there isn't any other possibility).
Is this enough to say the CPU is faulty? After disconnecting the cable, I shook the computer "a lot" and it didn't turn off. So I reconnected it and shook it just a little (actually barely touched it) and it immediately turned off.
I managed to turn the PC on a few times before this. But it'd just turn off after a while or freeze.

Thanks in advance!

Is it possible the shaking isn't the cause, that maybe it is just being zapped by ESD when you go to touch it sometimes?

Of the possibilities you've mentioned, the CPU would be the last on the list I would think. The board would be my first guess. Or could it be poor contact between the PSU's CPU connector and the board's header?
