Hi there. I'm looking to figure out which hard drive would be better to run windows and certain applications with. Would a 320 gb 3.0 gb/s SATA Hitachi Laptop Hard Drive [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA67S2981157]

or a 250gb 1.5gb/s SATA Samsung sp2504c (can't find specific as everything is 3 gb/s SATA now...) desktop hard drive a better choice?

I'll be using a 1tb as my main storage. Also, is there anything I should do to make this set up work more consistently? Doing research I've seen mention of keeping 40 or so Mb of space free on certain drives, etc...

3.5" drives perform better than 2.5" drives.

No need to over-think it, if you are constantly having to delete stuff to put on more, you need a bigger drive.

When upgrading, my rule of thumb is, you want at least double of what you got now.
Do you have a budget?

Without a doubt, an SSD is the BEST choice especially when you combine it with a large 1TB storage drive as you have.

If you have a budget, we can suggest some SSDs to fit in that.
Also, what 'certain applications do you mean' ? Games or just like ms office?

No budget, just trying to upgrade my system with items that seem to be laying around my household and figure out which parts would be best. I have multiple roommates and they ditch pc parts like they are nothing, so I thought I would try to repurpose them.
I would be using this drive as a home for windows and drivers, and anything else I dont know about. Ive never messed around with disk drives so I'm pretty much in the dark.
