I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD Green internal HDD.
I'd second what @Phillip Corcoran suggested and recommend you to run the QUICk and EXTENDED tests from
WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows. It will help you determine the health and SMART status of the drive. I'd also suggest you to try re-seating the connections to the HDD and even try swapping the SATa cable and a different port on the motherboard. If you have access to another PC, I'd also advise you to try formatting the WD Green drive there instead.
