Hi Guys

I built my new PC a couple of weeks ago and ever since I have been getting random BSOD. I had put it down to the overclocking software provided by Asus in the BIOS but I've just had one with no overclocking enabled.

The system has got through 24hrs of Prime 95 and has passed about 12hrs+ of Memtest 86. I'm now at my wits end. My temps are brilliant both at idle and under load.

So far I've tried;

1) Reinstalling windows
2) Disabling overclocking
3) Enabling and disabling XMP profile in BIOS
4) Reseating all components
5) Clear CMOS every time I disable the overclock

My specs are;

i5 6600K
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Edition
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM (2 x 8GB)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
2TB Seagate ST2000DM001 Barracuda 7200
4GB MSI GTX 970 GAMING Twin Frozr 5
600W Corsair CXM Builder series, Hybrid Modular, 80PLUS Bronze, 1x120mm, ATX, PSU

Like I said above I had put the problems down to using the automatic overclocking in the BIOS as it seemed to work better when that was disabled however the last BSOD occurred with no overclock or XMP and the computer was idle.

The BSOD gives the message WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. Sometimes it doesn't even dump the report it gets to say 70% or so before the BSOD even fails lol.

Below are some of the reports given by BlueScreenView;

Any help would be much appreciated.

That can be cpu related. Kill the OC then update the BIOS in the BIOS. Sometimes this can fix that stop error

And uninstall all the programs you installed to do with overclocking

I]http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223651en]I would also update the firmware on that seagate if CC4H isnt on it.[/url] Most seagates are full of bugs in their firmware

If you update it, make sure the seagate is the only hdd thats connected

Thanks for your quick reply. I have killed the OC and updated the BIOS. The software that came with the motherboard has been uninstalled for a while as that accelerated the problem. Updating the firmware on the hard drive is one thing I haven't done. I'll do it ASAP.

I get an error message using the drive detect software saying the signature is corrupt or invalid and it wont let me run it. I've used the SeaTools for windows software instead which says the FW is CC26.

I get the same error message when I try and use the executable to update the firmware. I haven't got an optical drive. Could I use the .iso method using a USB stick.

I've got past the error by clicking Run Anyway. However I don't know how to run it as my system is running off the SSD so I can't disconnect that

Dont know what program you could use for a flash drive. Rufus doesnt support that ISO

Drivedetect isnt corrupt I downloaded it and it ran OK. Right click on the file / properties. Tick unblock bottom right. If that doesnt work, it sounds like theres's something on your system that's corrupting it

What browser did you use to download it?

I've used drive detect now. It states my FW is up to date, as above CC26.

Model: ST2000DM001-1ER164, Serial: Z4Z47HVF, Firmware: CC26

Thanks for you efforts so far. I need to go to bed so there will be a delay if anybody else tries to help.

I've checked multiple ways. Each way says there is no newer firmware available.

Any other suggestions?

I don't know what to say. I've downloaded the firmware updater and used it because you seem pretty sure. It goes through the motions but doesn't actually update the firmware. It goes to quick for me to see why.

I have been using the following details.

Model: ST2000DM001-1ER164, Serial: Z4Z47HVF

I downloaded the .exe firmware updater above the .iso because I don't have an optical drive. I filmed the process on my phone so I could see what it says. It restarts the computer goes into GRUB, finds the Seagate drive and gives the correct model number and serial number but then says "This drive or current firmware version is not compatible with this update."

I thought id got rid of it completely when I disabled the OC and cleared the CMOS until I came back to it the other night to find it had happened again whilst idle. It's better now but I don't feel confident in it.

Does the info at the bottom of BlueScreenView help. Please see link for screenshot

I took my system apart removed the CPU and found one bent pin. The motherboard has been RMA'd and I have replaced it with the same model. Unbelievably though the problem still persists.

This is the latest crash report

Paul. I have reset the BIOS but what do you mean when you say reconfigure them?
