Hey, this is my first time building a PC. I've already gathered most of the components, but I'm wondering if I the PSU I've chosen is overkill or it's good enough.

COMPONENTS

  • ASUS GTX 970 4GB
    Haswell I7 4790 non-k with cooler
    Kingston Savage 8GB RAM
    1TB Western Digital Sata
    Z97X Gaming-3 MOBO
    EVGA 850W psu

Solution
Ok been trying to look at products in argentina and figure out prices but its hard to do and to compare to USD directly.
So to just answer your question 850W is more then required
GeForce GTX 970 - 28A and a 500W PSU minimum (https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards)
What site are you using, if its newbytes then I would still get the 850W as the next one the 600W is a lower quality power supply in general
http://www.nb.com.ar/d7387/gabinetes-fuentes-fuente-evga-600w-100b10600kr
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html (tier 3 for 600B vs tier 1 for G2)
Because your build looks more like a $1700 AUD build than a $1700 USD one. :p

The problem with the argentine peso as a currency is that when I buy from resellers like I'm doing so, I get charged a bit more since there's no way for me to buy it from pages like newegg or ebay, so basically while this build is cheaper in USD it's more expensive in ARS. Thanks a lot for taking the time to build it for me though, but right now I'm looking for the PSU I should use on what I've listed there, which I guess can be around 600-700w?

I saw a pre-built pc that lacks a GPU only, I can get:

I7 4790 Haswell
8GB Kingston Savage
Asus h81m-a
Western Drive Caviar Blue 1tb sata3

For $700, whilst what I get and that mobo you showed for $770. Is it a good deal?

Its hard to say how good of a deal it is without comparing to other things in the same price range,
The H81 seems a little weird to combo with an i7, if you do go that route I would probably get a new CPU cooler as well as the one in that build will probably be poor

Yeah I thought the H81 didn't fit in that build too. I'll see what I end up getting. Also, what tools do I need to assemble the pc when the time has come?

Philips head screw driver is basically it, maybe some needle nose pliers if you need to work in tight spaces, nail polish remover and cotton/q-tips for taking off the thermal grease on the chip when you remove the heat sink/reinstall. Oh get some new thermal paste for when you do re-install or put on the new cpu cooler.

Wall-Mart will do I guess :p

So this is what I've got then:

  • NZXT Phantom Guardian 921RB
    I7 4790 non-k Haswell
    Kingston Savage 8GB 2133mhz DDR3
    EVGA Bronze 600w 80plus
    Asus GTX 970 4GB DDR5
    Asus H97M
    Western Digital 1TB
    Samsung 20"

Do you guys think I should get another case? I'm still missing the dvd lector so I can install windows on my own.

Ok then, I saw some benchmarks and the I5 4690K seems like a good CPU to buy taking into account price and the use I'm gonna give it. What PSU do you recommend?

Changed some stuff, can't get that psu now. I'ts worth more than what I have left to spend, which is $100.
