Hi there, This is my first post. Sorry if it's in the wrong place. I'm following up after trying this solution I found on google http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2167498/high-memory-usage.html?56bf057fdec62=reload

My system =
Windows 8.1
ASRock Z75 Pro3 LGA 1155 Intel Z75
Intel Core i5-3570K
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
MSI GeForce GTX 750Ti

Basically after a few hours use, my memory will start getting nearly maxed out. (never seen it above 90%). But I will notice everything becomes sluggish, switching tabs in chrome or firefox takes seconds to load from a blank screen, games become very "fragmented" and basically unplayable.

I usually keep chrome open with a few tabs while i play games tabbing back and fourth, etc.

The thing is when I notice this, I shut everything down, but I check task manager and my memory sticks at around 65-80% useage, even when im just idling on desktop.

At this point I'm a loss. I was about to upgrade from 8gb to 16gb of memory but I have a feeling this is some kind of memory leak issue.

Here are some screenshots of me after about 8 hours of internet browsing (no gaming this session)

After running for 8 hours and closing everything, windows barley responding:

After a clean reboot:

I've got malware bytes. Ran a few online virus scans and nothing at all. When I woke up this morning my stuff was frozen so bad I saw an error from malware bytes saying some weird error and i might have a rootkit, so I downloaded their rootkit scanner thing and that came up clean as well. I couldn't get the pc to shut off so I had to do a hard reboot. I built this rig in late 2014 and I'm just at a loss on what to do. Ran the windows bootscreen memtest thing and that said everything is fine... I've even tried switching my ram sticks around in the slots.

*tears out hair* If anyone can help me work through this I'd be eternally grateful.

Have you tried reinstalling your OS from a recreated bootable USB installer? The issue you've stated was recently found within Windows 10 and apparently was one of the dreaded issues seen in pretty much all Windows 8/8.1 users. Registry hacks usually are the cure but in the event it doesn't work the best course of action is a re-installation of OS.

On the other hand it can also come about from a faulty driver. Have you made sure your drivers are all up to date including your BIOS version?

Lastly have a go with this and this article.
