hello everyone currently iam using bsnl internet which provides internet through telephone wire which is RJ11 and that we have to plug in my asdl router to use internet. but i want to switch to another isp but the problem is that this isp provides internet through RJ45 so can i use my older routher for the new isp which provides internet trough RJ45. i have seen lots of web sites saying that it is possible by disabling the dhcp and connecting to one of the lan ports.

First of all - what model is your ASUS?

Please clarify: you want to go from this:

-------(RJ11 wire)----------> [ASDL Port]ASDL ASUS Modem/Router[Ethernet port] ----------(ethernet cable)---------> Computer(s)

To this:

-------(ethernet wire)----------> [Ethernet Port] ASDL ASUS Modem/Router[Ethernet Port] ----------(ethernet cable)---------> Computer(s)

But with DHCP disabled in the ASUS.

You still need DHCP to hand out IP addresses to the connected devices. And I do not believe that the ASUS can handle internet coming in on a LAN port versus the intended/expected ASDL port.

Please verify my understanding and correct as necessary. That will help with finding possible solutions or other ways to proceed.
