Now the Drive doesn't show. I then made another mistake (I learned later) of doing a backup to my external drive. Is it possible to retrieve Drive D:? If not, will Win 10 function without Drive D:? I have a LOT to learn!!

Thanks. I installed Win 10 over Win 7 (FOC as a user) three weeks ago. I tried to do a backup to D: drive yesterday as it wouldn't let me use my external drive but it was too full to complete so I looked up on the web what to do and found instructions on how to delete files from D: drive. Followed instructions to Disk Management but at the final step where it said click Delete, it deleted the drive from the Volume column. (I'm lousy at understanding the jargon.)

And we are lousy at understanding your description of events.
As said above, a screencap of your Disk Management windows would help here.

And no matter what, be very careful about following youtube videos in the future.

I've taken screen shot but can't see how to attach/paste it here. SO sorry.
