Quick questions about hard drives

So after a few years now my HDD is starting to get a bit full and I'm thinking about getting a new one. Is it better to just get a internal HDD rather than an external HDD if I don't plan on needing to take it places, and also what would be some recommendations for the best 1TB+ HDD for $100 or less? Thanks
