Hello everyone,

I am planning out my first build and could use some knowledgable advice. My budget is about $850 - $1,100 depending if there is any performance benefit with spending closer to $1,000. I do not plan to overclock in the future. I do not want this build to be limited to what I can play because I don't know exactly what games I'd like to start getting into. Off the top of my head, Counter Strike will be the first game that I will be purchasing. That is a quick run down of my needs. If there are any other questions that I may need to answer, please ask.

I am missing a graphics card and a network card in my list below. I do need assistance on finding those. Please note: The reason I am needing a network card is because my router (Netgear Nighthawk X4) and modem (Motorola SURFboard) is connect on the first floor of the home. At this moment, there is no possible way to re-route the network into my gaming room.

Rough Draft of my Build: (The list is missing a graphics card and network card)
- Rosewill Thor V2 Case
- ASRock Extreme 6 Motherboard
- Corsair Vegeance 2 x 4GB DDR3 RAM
- Intel i5 - 4690K - Devil's Canyon Processor
- EVGA 650W 120-G1-0650-XR Power Supply
- Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD
- Rosewill SSD to 3.5" Mounting Kit

Questions:
- What graphics card would you all recommend?
- What network card should I plan to purchase?
- Is there anything I should spend less money on and put more money into?

Thank you for your time,

David

How much money can you still spend on this build? If it's around 300, I'd go for a GTX970, if you've got a little more, around 550 left, I'd go for a GTX980. PSU is big enough for both cards. For the network card, I haven't got that much experience. I've got a USB network adapter myself, the Netgear WNDA3100. I use it for gaming, it gives me high transfer speeds, and low latency in games (20-30 ms ping). Have fun building!

And ehm, sorry, I'm a newer guy, I can't really recommend you a mobo, my specialisation is the new 1151 socket ;). I can help you go that way if you want. I recommend a i5-6500, the sweet spot processor for gaming in my eyes. I you take that CPU, and want to OC in the future, get a Z170 board. If you want to spend less, and not oc, get a B150(M) board, these are great non-OC boards!

Just a solid build coming through.

I think we can get you a bit faster CPU and an SSD and a WIFI unit for that budget.

Looks fine to me! I'd just stay with a i5-6500, since that's enough for games, and stay with a non OC board, since he's getting in to gaming, and probably isn't planning to OC. A B150M mobo should do.

Overclockable FPS bomb.
