Ok so i was looking at UPSs for my computers, routers, modems, etc. and i think i have narrowed it down to two of them but am stuck with some conflicting info.

EATON Powerware 9130 Series PW9130L3000T-XL 3000 VA 2700 Watts 5 Outlets Tower UPS

and

APC SUA3000xl 3000 VA 2700 Watts (9) NEMA 5-15R (2) NEMA 5-20R Outlets Smart-UPS XL 3000VA 120V Tower/Rack Convertible

One site says they both have built in surge protectors, another doesnt, along with their software, which confuses me a little, but in the end, which one should i get?

No. Many UPS allow line voltage to power the load for the majority of the time and only switch battery on when it senses a problem with the input voltage. You need to look at the specifications.

That is fine. Many users wouldn't know an L5-30 twist lock if it bit them. I just wanted to be sure you understood that these UPS units won't plug into standard wall outlets.

The best choice for a UPS is a double conversion unit. That unit always converts power to DC and then back to AC. The output is constant independent of the input. The APC Smart-UPS Online models are double conversion. I have been buying the SURTA1500 units on E-Bay and putting new batteries in them if required. They are $800 units that can be had for <$200 on a good day.
