OK so.....I am buying a new ssd and still need to update to win 10 from my windows 7. Later, I would like to be able to access files/drivers that I have saved on my current HDD. How do I go about this.? My idea was to disconnect old HDD...install new ssd so I could have a fresh install of my Windows 7...but then how do I get windows 10. Please help!!!

Solution
like you are thinking is the best way. put in the ssd and get a fresh win 7 install and then do the win 10 upgrade. once that is done, then put the old hdd back in and grab whatever files you want from it. format it and then you can use it as a separate data drive. but grab the files you want first, move them to the ssd for now. otherwise you'll lose them when you format the drive.

put everything into one easy to find place before removing old hdd so they are easy to find. my documents folders are burried when you try to get to them from a separate os. multiple users can make this a nightmare to find everything to save.

a clean install will always be better than an upgrade so i recommend doing the windows 10 upgrade on your current drive then when the upgrade is complete you can go install the SSD and do a clean install of windows 10
