If I downscale from 1440p to 1080p does it make the image quality worse?

Hi I was wanting to upgrade to a 1440p and want to play some games at 1440p and others at 1080p depending on the frame rate I get but I have heard that downscale to 1440p from 1080p is a lot worse image quality, is this true?

Solution
Depending on the monitor screen size you will see little to no difference. For example. 24 inch and lower size, I do not think you will ever notice the difference. 1440p and 1080p, or 2560x1440 and 1920x1080 is the number of pixels (width times height) you see on the screen thus when going down from 1440p to 1080p you will see less pixels thus the image is less sharp and if you have a big screen you will be able to see those pixels at a certain distance.

Hope that answers your question.

Well the obvious answer is yes, just like going from 1080p to 720p. Or from 4K to 1440p and so on. Personally im not a huge nerd about graphics as long as my framerate is at point where I can enjoy the game itself.

I have a 23 inch 1080p and downscaling To lower res makes Definitely makes the image look blurry. I checked to make sure it wasn't the reduced pixel count by hooking up an old flat panel 1280 * 1024 I have hanging around, the image looks fine on that so it must be the downscaling. From 1440p to 1080p you don't notice it as much as 1440p to 720p but it's enough to bother me.
