Would the r9 390 be good enough for recording videos on medium/high settings at 50/60 fps?

Totally, it can handle most games on high/ultra because most recording programs use the cpu exept for plays.tv but it doesn't take a lot of ur gpu

That's a good choice. However with games now making use of 4 cores, if you are serious about recording then an i7 would do you better. I can record most stuff with my i5 but for some games using 3-4 cores it bogs down and frames drops occur alot.

It is possible to donwload a prgram that saves one core for doing other things (like recording) and helps if you want to be sure all your cores are being used
