Currently I am running

  • - Gainward GTX 750ti
    - i3-4160 (3.6ghz)
    - 8GB Memory

I am looking to upgrade potentially both the processor and the graphics card. I have been looking at the i5-4460 (3.2ghz) and the ASUS Strix GTX960 (4GB).

I am curious to know if upgrading to the i5 with actually be beneficial. My research has not helped very much. I will be using it for mostly gaming, and the occasional video rendering. Right now most games run alright, however titles such as Arma3 and DayZ seem to perform poorly.

Is it worth upgrading? Can I get better? Let me know please.

Thanks,
Chase

For arma3 & dayz which really only use 2 threads an i5 won't really be that beneficial, to your i3 actually has a better single thread performance count than the 4460.
The 960 though definitely will be , I would say go for the 960 first , see if the performance increase if what you're after & if not then consider upping to the i5.

Thankyou. I was considering doing this, and just letting the performance speak for itself.

The gtx 750ti isn't a bad card but the gtx 970 is better, your CPU isn't bad, games don't use CPU that much, I recently bought a g1 gaming gtx970 for only $250!!! But even a gtx960 is a good idea. What's your budget?

I have about $630 AUD. The GTX 960 I am looking at is $330. 970's are upwards $450. I don't want to go up any more since I plan to use the other money upgrading other things.

Gtx960 is a sufficient upgrade but the gtx970 would be a massive upgrade. I think that gtx970 would be money well spent!!
