Alright, guys, I have Logitech Z323s and a custom built PC running on Windows 8.1 Pro without a discreet sound card. This has happened to me the last 2 times I have booted up... Audio just fails to play... Last time I was checking all the connections on my power strip, and then it randomly just returned. In fact, as I was writing this, audio turned on for a second and then turned back off. Nothing is muted in the volume mixer, and the speakers are default in playback devices, so that isn't it. Motherboard is the Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5, if you wanted to know what type of audio solution it is. I've tried disconnecting the satellites from the subwoofers and the 3.5mm jack from my PC, including unplugging the subwoofer, and none of it seems to be working...

UPDATE: Plugging it into front audio header works, and then if I plug it back in to motherboard header it works for a second. Repeat process 1 more time and it works... What could this mean?

Solution
if it works permanently when connected to the front jack and also when connected to any other 3.5mm output device (try with your phone or mp3 player) but it refuses to work with the rear port i'm thinking there may be a hardware issue with your board (if it was software, generally the front would also give you issues but we cant rule it out completely.

you could also try pulling the plug out slightly as it could be a poor fit/port issue. sometimes manufacturers are off on their standards and there is poor fit.

you could try reinstalling your audio drivers in case there is something bugged up but i'm not going to hold my breath for that.

solutions? if you can determine that it is without a doubt a motherboard issue then a rma (yes i...

solutions? if you can determine that it is without a doubt a motherboard issue then a rma (yes i know with everything installed this is a pain) otherwise you could get a soundcard or just continue using the front jacks. virtual audio cable or similar programs could be used to output to another port besides the one you tried in case its just the one jack with an issue although its not the best solution and might have audio delay potentially.
