Hi guys, I have an I5 4440 and was wondering if the leap to an I7 4790k would be worth it. My motherboard is a Z97-P would thi

Ok, then it might be time to upgrade that as well. I've never heard of that brand, but from a quick research session of 30secs it doesn't look good.
Although it might work without any issues, those cheap PSU's tend to burn out at full load, and i don't want to imagine what it might do with a 980ti..

Get a good 600W+ power supply from Seasonic, XFX, Corsair (NOT CX/CXM/VS), Silverstone etc..

What are you using your PC for? Gaming? Editing?
And what are your other specs, GPU, PSU etc..?

For just gaming, the i5 you have is good enough, the i7 would give better performance, but it might not be worth spending hundreds of $ on a new CPU if your current one still is capable. If you don't have a that-powerful GPU, that would be a better upgrade.

Hi thanks for the answer! My GPU is a GTX 960 and my PSU is 650 watts. This is primarily for gaming. I do plan on getting a a 980 Ti sometime in the summer or maybe one of the new GPU's that are rumoured to be released I just thought that if I upgrade the CPU now then it would benefit me in the Summer.

If you have money for a 980ti, get it instead of the i7. The 4440 can cope with the 980ti just fine, and there will be no bottleneck. Since you have a Z motherboard, you can make the i7 step later, but currently your weakest spot in your system is the 960.
What exact PSU do you have? Just to make sure that it can handle the beast of a 980ti.

This is I believe a UK brand also so maybe you live in the USA (Only got that idea form the $ you posted earlier please do correct if wrong) I built this PC about a year ago and don't really want to be putting new PSU and things like that already although I will certainly do more research before I pick up a 980 ti

I saw some reviews, and at least 50% had system failures, burning smells, or just no power. If you are confident yours will work, don't upgrade. If you want to be safe, upgrade.
