Hi, I am building my first pc and plan to game on 1440p. I dont know if to buy the gtx 980 or R9 390X. Also, which is a good G-Sync or FreeSync monitor for under 600$?

Solution
1. I highly recommend not upgrading now. Here are two links to people I have said this to already with lots of info as to why.

2. This one is easy. Dell Gaming S2716DG 27.0" --- It is cheaper than ASUS, and Acer variants. It is also not plagued by the bad quality control those two variants have in all the reviews. You will of course google it youself, and probably watch jayztwocent or linus tech tip videos, or read amazon reviews or new egg reviews. Bottom line this will come out on top in all of them. Until something else launches this is the best as of today...

They both are very good cards and shouldn't be disappointed with any of them. The R9 390X has more VRAM but gives you higher temperatures unlike the Gtx 980 witch doesn't have too high temperatures. Both of them can run games smoothly at 1440p but in your situation I think it's safer to go with the green team, the Gtx 980.

To answer your second question I'm not very good at high end monitors but one of the 1440p ASUS 1ms response time G-Sync monitors should be good.

Hope this helps

Those are some good points . Waiting for Nvidia Pascal or AMD Polaris graphics cards is probebly the best time to decide. You don't wan to buy a card and then realise that you could have got a better and newer card for the same price.

The Dell monitor looks good for everything but just make sure you switch it to fast mode to get a 1ms response time.
