iam trying to upgrade a minecraft servers ram but cant

hello my computer is not allowing me to use more than 1GB ram on my minecraft server and i got 12 GB with 5 GB in use and 7GB not in use and iam trying to set the ram use for the server on 2-3GB anybody who can help
BTW it is the normal error: error occurred during initialization of vm could not reserve enough space for object heap: or something like that

You will need to go here for the official Minecraft server. https://minecraft.net/download. There's a link to a tutorial on how to set up the server for what purpose you are going to us it for. Whether it is for you and a friend or a bunch of friends.
