Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-117, processor Intel® Core™ i3 and it has been moving slow since 3 days ago. It’s only when I try to load pages or a video. For a 3 minute video I have to wait 5. I have no problem with it outside of using the internet. I tried cleaning my drivers, scanning the laptop in case it had a virus, but it found nothing. I flushed the IP and DNS. Also in the last 2 days my C driver went from 129 GB free to 119 GB free. I cleaned it and now it’s at 122 GB free. I wanted to reinstall my Windows as I have Windows 8 and I can click on ‘Remove everything and reinstall Windows’ , but I don’t know if this will solve the problem. Is there anyone who encountered those problems? What can I do to make my internet connection work normally again?

Well if the laptop is still working at uni and all other devices on your network are working I think there is hope of salvation.

Are you using an internal or external wireless adapter? Make and model? Sky router - which model?

Working at the uni indicates that the wireless adapter is fully functional.

What do you change when you come home and wirelessly connect again to your home network? Versus uni connection?

Perhaps the adapter and home router have stopped playing well together. Maybe due to some update or software bug.

When you reinstalled the adapter drivers did you do any reconfiguration in the adapter settings? Do they map to the router's wireless settings?

Try setting the wireless adapter manually. E.g., set the...

For now do not go down the reinstall path.

Are there any other computers on your network? Do they have slow internet access?

If your Toshiba is the only computer have you contacted your ISP? Have them do a check from their end.

You might have to make two or three calls to "get their attention". Be sure to call when the problem is occuring.

What modem/router are you using - what network connectivity; wired, wireless?

Have there been any known software changes or updates?

Really best to have some patience and dig into the problem a bit more.

There are 4 more computers on this network and they all have good internet connection. So it is a problem on my part. The router I'm using is a Sky wireless one. As far as I know there were no updates because I had them turned off and I turned them on only yesterday. I don't know if this is related but I downloaded kaspersky and malware free trial and they both expired last week, but I deleted them already.

You may want to take a look at what is running on your system via the system configuration, resource monitor, and performance monitor windows.

Even though you deleted Kaspersky and malware there could still be some residual issues.

Have you ever used CCleaner? Free utililty that is very good both for system maintenance and registry cleaning.

Start up, and open the resource monitor. Take a look at the processes and services that are running. Likewise for system configuration and performance monitors.

Lots to look at and it may take you a bit of time to understand it all and become comfortable moving about the various tabs, etc.. One thing often overlooked is that you can sometimes right-click on any given process or service to get more details.

Hold off on stopping or deleting anything that seems to be taking resources. Make sure you know what that process or service is and why it may be running. If you do deem that something appears amiss, do some online research, or post here.

Then you can take action in a safer, more informed way. But as always, have backups up to date.

Thank you for the reply. I looked at the things running on my system and nothing seems strange, every program is either from Toshiba, Intel or Microsoft. I already have Ccleaner and I used it immediately after deleting Kaspersky and Malware. Also today my laptop started to disconnect from the wifi. Now not only it moves slow, but it also disconnects It will connect to the internet then suddenly disconnect and I will get this error: DNS Probe Finished No internet. After I connect to the wifi again, it works. I tried to reset the TCP/IP settings, I rebooted the PC and nothing. This only happens with the wifi at home because I had my laptop with me at uni today and I had no problem with the wifi there.

That helps. Do you have Chrome?

Google "DNS Probe Finished No internet".

Here are a couple of links that I found:

http://ccm.net/forum/affich-802978-launching-internet-after-dns-probe

http://www.pcappspot.com/fix-dns-probe-finished-no-internet-error-fixed/

The first link may be the most helpful.

The second is a bit more complicated.

Read and form some sort of understanding that the solutions being offered actually match what you are seeing on your system. Seem okay as I view it but there may be some other detail that you recognize as relevant or not relevant. Or a warning somewhere.

There are other sites that came up but a couple were just click bait sites that came up - be careful not to click any subsequent links within those sites. Exit the page and site if the contents do not look or feel right. E.g., lots of buttons to click or pop-ups appearing.

Yes, I have Chrome. I tried earlier today and again a few minutes ago the c:\netsh winsock reset on cmd as an admin, then restarted the computer and it's the same. I also tried changing the DNS address to open DNS and clearing the cache. I have downloaded firefox and it moves worse that Chrome. I was tempted to reboot the router, but it's only working like that on my laptop, the rest have no problem with it. Windows Defender is turned off so I don't think it could have done something. I've also tried screaming at it and I've lost all hope of salvation.

Try setting the wireless adapter manually. E.g., set the speed and duplex to the value choices versus "auto" or "auto negoiate".

Do the same to match the adapter's wireless standard to that of the router. Select the 802 standard being used.

Make note of other settings and compare them to the wireless lan adapter on a system that is working.

Probably enough for now. But the next step will be to go into the Event Viewers. First with no browsers running, watch and then open a browser, see if any errors or warnings pop up. Or some service or process grabs all or most of some resource (via performance and resource monitors).

As for screaming that is okay. But I read once that machines have a union and if you are not careful they will gang up on you :)

Wine, if appropriate, may be more theraputic....

I’m using and internal Broadcom 802.11b network adapter and as for the router, it is a Sagemcom F@ST2304 router.
I don’t think I changed anything. While at uni it automatically connects to the wifi there and the same when I get home.
No, I left the adapter setting alone.
As for setting the wireless adapted manually, when I click on the advanced tab, I don’t see speed/duplex or link speed and duplex on the list.
Yesterday night and today morning it worked until I left for uni. Yesterday night the router had the yellow triangle so my flatmate turned it on and off a couple of times. It came back and along with it came my long lost fast internet. But I remember doing the same thing when it first happened and it did nothing. That router must hate me.
If it helps you somehow, that yellow triangle appears every two-three days and we have to turn the router on and off every time for the connection to be re-established. I’m amazed that the router is still working.
