What prompted the change to my build was my computer class in college. The class had Dell Optiplex 7440 AIOs with I7-vpro CPUs. It was able to use Handbrake and convert 720p mkv videos to 720p mp4 videos in 2 and a half minutes each in a whopping 200fps conversion rate. Surely enough, the computer that was working on Handbrake was cooling off at the same time.

So, I renovated the build to include the recent I7-6700, a motherboard that can use DDR4 RAM cards and those cards too. Budget is $800. Future upgrades is in the air.

1- Will mobo+i7+16GB cards be able to perform Handbrake conversions similarly and/or better than the aforementioned AIOs?
2- I intend to do overnight conversion jobs on maybe a day-to-day basis. Do I need to increase cooling capabilities??
3- Obviously as well, I intend to play DOOM 2016 on day one, or later. Will the build be able to accommodate upgrades in order to run the game at minimum or maybe, max settings? My GPU choice (and apparently, of many), is the GTX 970.

I hope this build is able to kick that AIO's butt. Feel free to take apart, help me out, please and thank you.

Solution
If I read the tech specs correctly on the AIO's, they use the low power version of the processor you selected. They are clocked lower, so you should have better performance. Adding a GTX 970 will shorten your encoding times, and is a good compromise between cost and performance. You won't be able to use those old drives, they have an IDE interface and your motherboard doesn't support it.

Pity. It's cool. I'll go for one good optical drive later on.

Oh, and one more question: from reviews, the I7-6700K can play HEVC/x265-encoded videos. Does the non-K version (What I have in the build) have this perk and if it does, can I simply use Windows 10's Media player to watch HEVC videos or do I still need apps like VLC?

Another question about the mobo+DDR4 RAM cards.

Since the mobo's current memory standard is 2133, should I go for RAM cards of that number or can I add DDR4-2400+ cards?? And for clarification, the DDR4 cards that have 'Intel Z170/X99 Platform' in their names, those cards are only restricted to those mobos?

Pretty much anything you build now is going to be better than a 7 year old Dell AIO. To answer your questions:

1. Handbrake encoding is kind of a tricky beast. Because it requires a CPU that is capable of video encoding at high bit rates. Now this is one area where an AMD processor might be beneficial because this is one area where I've seen FX-8350 encode video better than some Intel processors, but if gaming is your first priority then Intel is what you want to go with.

2. Not necessarily. Instead look at getting a better power supply. For locked processors you don't need anything more than stock cooling. But if you want to run SLI with that 970 then look at getting an unlocked processor and a very stable PSU such as a Seasonic X or EVGA G2/B2/T2/P2.

3. That depends on monitor resolution. A GTX 970 will handle 1080P and 1440P without breaking a sweat. If you want to run a monitor higher than 1440P such as 4K, then you want to buy a motherboard that's capable of SLI'ing that 970 and a PSU that can handle that as well.

@1st Answer: Noted. I initially wanted to go for that FX chip, but I just drifted onto Intel because of well, better performance. For future reference, is there a convincing reason on why people would move from the FX-8350 to the Intel I7s??

@2nd Answer: I'm aiming for the EVGA Supernova B2 750w. I can just add one more case fan and have the left side of the case become the exhaust.

@3rd Answer: About that, I recently bought an ASUS S200HQL 19.5" LED monitor. Would that monitor be able to handle the 970? I'm content with 1080p normal gaming. Nothing too big.

Another question: I'm thinking about the motherboard's current RAM capacity of DDR4-2133. Can I add DDR4-2400+ cards to this motherboard or do I have to restrict myself to 2133?
