This computer first stopped working a while back and I have begun the repairing process. The first issue I dealt with was the GPU and found that a new GPU allowed the computer to properly turn on and display.

I have since then wiped the HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 with an upgrade to Windows 10.

However, when I press the power button to the computer all the fans begin turning and then stop immediately. I first tested the PSU with the paper clip test and the fan turned on just as it should. I then tried removing the CMOS battery and letting it drain of power for a few minutes, after reinstalling the battery and connecting the power cable the computer turned on and booted all the way into windows (5 beeps occurred at startup and I decided that I needed to correct the time and date on the computer, which I did). After shutting down and trying to power on with the button the only way to successfully turn it on was to remove the CMOS battery once again and everything booted up fine.

I then began to disconnect and reconnect all connections which did not solve the issue.

My next step was to boot up with only one RAM chip. I found that out of my 6 RAM slots which alternate between black and white clips, the black slots do not work properly and give an additional 2 beeps after the 5 beeps previously heard. Reducing my RAM to the 3 white slots allows the computer to turn on and function (ONLY AFTER REMOVING CMOS BATTERY AGAIN).

I have also tried the CMOS jumper and password jumper resets which did not provide any solutions to this problem.

Another quick fix I tried was removing and reinstalling the CPU which did not help anything besides clean out some dust.

I have been working on a solution to this problem for some time now and any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

*****Just tried booting without the CMOS battery installed and the system does the same thing.

Sometimes the system goes to:

"CMOS checksum error"
"Press F2 to run Setup"
"Press F1 to load default values and continue"

Hitting F1 fully starts up the computer and usually everything runs smoothly.

Without the CMOS battery the desktop background was purple with white dots, nothing moving and only on the actual background.

After restarting from that weird desktop background (still without installing CMOS battery) the desktop background was operating as usual with the same image as normal.

***P.S. I did try a new CMOS battery.

***I got an old PSU that worked but only had a 4-pin connector not the 8-pin on the motherboard and I think the problem may have been solved. I think it was an issue with the power increase from the power button. Seems to work now although the HDD is running at 100% so I am running chkdsk at the moment to fix any bugs. Thanks for all the help.

I was going to say, if you're working with the CMOS battery and that affects the issue, then it's definitely power related. Especially if you changed out the CMOS battery and it had the same behavior.

I would not keep that PSU powering your rig if it only had a four port connector and not eight. That can damage your board and its parts.
