installed sound card not working

I have an Asus Xonar DSX sound card and when I install it I get no sound. My on board audio won't work either. I do have a monitor with speakers built in so could that be overriding the others and not letting sound from those come through its speakers?

You need to disable on-board audio in the motherboard's BIOS/UEFI configuration as at present with the two audio devices being enabled there is a resources conflict, which is why neither of them are working.

It's similar to when you install a PCI/PCIe GPU, you have to disable the on-board graphics chip.

I can't give you a step-by-step guide on disabling integrated audio in the BIOS because it varies across different different motherboard brands. Have a look around in BIOS Setup & you'll find it, that's all I did.
