Hello,

I'm new to security cameras and am looking for some specifics.

In the past I have had trouble with anti-social neighbors causing trouble for me and my house. So I'm interested in an indoor camera that can be attached preferably just above my windows or to the side of my windows to look out on my garden and the area around it. I also need quality, to capture them in the act if necessary, even at night (night vision)

I also need a camera that can be hooked up to my computer aswell as operate wirelessly if I need to. It also needs to be able to record the camera's footage, not just view it through livefeed

Lastly I hope you can answer this, but if you could, tell me if there is a way to operate a wireless camera without the use of an internet connection? For example, similar to the way wireless gaming controllers work, where you might have the USB reciever be plugged into the computer while the camera can operate wirelessly from several feet/meters away.

If you could answer my question and help me find a camera as close to what I am looking for as possible I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks for the quick reply, and I'm actually from the UK. I have been searching the internet for some good ones that are in-line with the specifics of what I'm looking for. I am very new to security cameras, so it's great to get some advice.

This is quite similar to the system I have

I'm not a fan of WiFi for security cameras. You have to run power to it anyway, so why wireless? And why increase the attack surface of your security system?

Where on the planet are you?
There are any number of inexpensive camera/DVR sets, starting at around $175US

Swann, Lorex, etc.

I have a 4 camera setup. Continuously recording to the DVR. Motion detection, night vision, etc, etc.
I think it was around $180 when I bought it a couple years ago.

This one looks pretty good, thanks. I guess wireless is good because you have much more freedom to position it how you want, but I guess if the cable that connects the camera to the DVR is long enough then it shouldn't matter.

My system (and the linked one) has 60 foot cables. I have them basically on 4 corners of the house, outside.
You could easily extend that to 100 feet.

It does its own thing, not needing to have your PC on all the time.
Accessible from the PC, smartphone, or just a regular monitor.
Also, alarm if one of the cameras loses signal. The DVR starts screaming.

Some of the systems are also Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) compatible. Mine is. Get a different camera, and you can aim it around as needed.

My recommendation: Get a dedicated system, instead of a camera running off your PC.

Well, you can get an decent camera system. I just got one from Amazon for less than 150 quid, a floureon security camera system with 4 cameras. Leaves expansion on in case you change your mind. And this system starts off with some pretty nice 1200 TVL resolution. Besides resolution, its night vision reaches to 82 ft with 36 IR leds. So I have no worries as for the night recording. At least so far.

I have set up the system with motion detection so in this way I can get an alarm as well as an email when any unauthorized activities are detected. Quite gives me a sense of security.
If I want to visit the footage on the phones from remote, I have to first scan the QR code to phones and log in. However if you desire, you can also wire to desired TV/laptop for life real time monitoring. And set up snapshots so they take a pic of the event and store it on your HD (footage also records to HD).
It's exceptionally user friendly I have found as compared to other kinds but that is just my personal opinion and hope this gives you some fresh ideas.

I have a cctv camera installed in my home that shows the footage into my phone.Cctv camera normally produces images using CMOS and CCD(Charge Couple Device) chips. Select a security camera with CCD technology because video quality will be better compared to CMOS.Here is a blog from protection plus security solutions that mentions some tips on how to select a cost effective alarm system http://protectionplus.ca/blog/tips-selecting-cost-effective-alarm-system/ . The size of the CCD chip is normally ¼” or ½”. The size of the CCD chips may vary but the quality of the video footage remains the same.
