would the core i5 6600k work good with msi h110m pro vd?

Solution
Just use the motherboard you picked and grab an i5-6500 instead of the i5-6600k. The motherboard can't overclock so it makes sense to save some money and get the i5-6500 instead.

The i5-6500 will not bottleneck your GTX 970. It wouldn't even bottleneck a 980 Ti.

It would work, but you are not using an overclocking chipset so you are wasting a lot of money on buying a "k" chip and not a z170 motherboard. That board is also quite weak and probably not very stable, or packs many features. It would work, but it might be weak and i you cannot overclock on it. Try something like this for a little more money with a z170 chipset and you will do a lot better. Alternatively if you have not bought your cpu yet you could get a non overclocking chip like the i5 6500 or something and get that motherboard and have a little more to spend on the video card.

If you dont want to overclock that motherboard would be fine, just a heads up, most people buy "k" scews in order to overclock, as you pay more for this feature

What exactly are "k" screws and do you think that this mobo and i5 6600k would bottle neck my gtx 970?

You would not need to upgrade i don't think, the load from your build will be comparibleto the one you are upgrading from

There would be no bottlenecking, and a "k" skew is the name of the series of processors intel makes that have unlocked core multipliers- they are overclockable. Intel sells them for a higher price than the "non k" skews

There is no 6500k. It's just a 6500. The reason that I recommended an i5-6500 is not because it's better than an i5-6600k. I recommended it because with the i5-6600k you are paying a premium for an overclocking CPU and you are pairing it with a motherboard that can't overclock.

If you are aren't going to overclock it doesn't make sense to pay more for an overclocking CPU. You should get an i5-6500 instead because it's cheaper. Neither CPU will bottleneck a 970 and if you aren't going to overclock you should go with the cheaper option.
