Hi there,

I've been trying to figure out the best options for RAM for my editing system. I primarily use Adobe Premiere Pro CC but also a lot of After Effects and encoding/compressing with Adobe Media Encoder. I currently have 32GB of G.Skill Ripjaws Z (4x8GB). I thought it was ok to mix RAM and had it up to 64GB but very unstable. So, I would like to get an 8x8GB kit.

I understand most RAM is going to be fine for most programs, but I assume Adobe utilizes the RAM more than just regular programs.

I don't care to overclock, but if XMP is made made to do it, should I limit my searching to XMP sticks? When I bought my 32GB kit I thought I paid $300+, (a couple years ago), but I see Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (8 x 8 GB) DDR3 1866 MHz (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory CMZ64GX3M8A1866C9 for $350. If I'm buying the RAM for me to do my job better (editing/rendering) I want to be sure I'm buying something that works. I understand G.Skill Z's aren't that big of a deal anymore.

If I just buy this am I going to be happy?

Thanks!
-Stephen

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately there are actually two projects at the moment that cannot even be rendered out without throwing in even 2 additional sticks (bringing it to 6 sticks = 48GB). I know 6 sticks is not as good as 8 or even 4, but when I add those extra sticks I can at least open and render. I have a RAM monitor that I can visually see it max out at 100% before Premier crashes- adding the extra 24GB I see it hover around 85%. I use noise removal (visual, not audio) and Warp Stabilizer that really kills the RAM.

But that doesn't mean the graphics card can't be better too. It's a GTX 970.

I *think* I saw a BIOS update to allow 128GB RAM. However I can't imagine needing that much anytime soon, and by then I would suspect I would be building a whole new rig. Plus I found 4x16GB sets much fewer to come by.

I'll look at the RipJaws Z- I know that's what was recommended when I first built the rig, but then the latency and timing stuff still confused me even after reading into what they really mean. Thanks for the suggestion. Unless anyone else has a different suggestion for a reason, I think I'll just grab the kit you listed.

Thanks!
