I have a W7 pc connected to an Actiontec router M1424WR, it is a Verizon FIOS router. I just purchased an HP laser printer (model M277dw) and I want to connect it via an ethernet cable to the router to join my network. Im not making much progress.

This is doable, right?
Clearly Im not a network guy...at all. The CD provided wasnt much help. I connected the printer to the router through the printers ethernet port and connected it to network connection #3 on the router but no communication seems to be happening. I opened the router configuration in my browser and the printer is not shown. How do I go about this?

This is top brand name printer, surely, there is a Quick Start guide, then a user manual, no?

Task 1: Make sure the printer has JOINED the network, ethernet port enabled. There are tinny LEDs by the RJ45 that signals so.
Task 2: Once the printer has joined the network... you should see via DHCP and it has leased an address, then running the driver CD should be very straightforward.

So, webmcs1, you know nothing about networking but you post a link to a site bearing your name. I've removed your link and was minded to ban you for posting Commercial Spam but your other posts seem OK up to a point.

You are, however, on our watch list.

It is a top brand name printer to be sure. The quick guide indicates to connect to the printer's ethernet connection and then to connect to the network. In my case to the router. Then the printer will magically connect. It didnt happen that way, no connect. So its either my W7 system blocking it through the firewall or some other setting, or maybe my router is blocking the connection, or maybe my virus protection, or maybe....
The quick setup guide was not helpful and the 5 page manual has not proven to be much help either.
