Complete System Upgrade Question About Windows

So I'm completely upgrading my system and need to know if there is anything out of the ordinary that I should expect. Long story short I'm coming from an AMD build where I have an FX-8150 with an ASRock 970 Extreme motherboard, XFX R9 280x GPU, and Patriot Viper DDR3 4GB x 4 in RAM.

I'm now switching to an i7 4790k with a Z97X-Gaming 3 motherboard and a R9 390 GPU.

My question is twofold, number one, is this RAM still acceptable? Everything I read on RAM shows that it really isn't that important as long as you have a decent amount.

And two, since I'm switching from an AMD build to an Intel one, do I really need to do anything with my hard drives and my operating system? The hard drives will be coming along and I am not replacing them. I have a 240GB SSD that I use as my primary drive and a 2TB drive for storage space. Is it basically just plug and go or do I need to do anything in advance to prepare the drives for the switch? I'm running Windows 10.

Thanks all for your help!

Your RAM is fine, but you will most likely have to re-instal windows. Your windows is configured for an amd build, and switching to an intel build almost always causes windows to be un-bootable. I would backup any data you need, and then wipe them and re-instal windows on your new build.

That's pretty much what I figured, thanks!

Remember too, if you have an OEM version of Windows you'll need a new license key as your 'old' key will be tied to your AMD board. Not unheard of to ask MS nicely and see if they'll let you transfer it though.........let's assume your motherboard is 'dead' ;)
