Physx, what is it and how does it work?

I have gathered some info from google searching physx, but I'm still fuzzy in some areas and I was hoping you guys could help me out.

1. Do I need two GPU's to use physx or will it work with just one?

2. When using AMD GPU's does the game just not render some stuff because physx isnt there to support it?

3. When making a GPU a dedicated physx card, can I use any two nvidia GPU's? For example lets say I have a gtx 970 and a gtx 750 ti. Could I use the 750 as a physx card? (This is likely the situation I will soon be in, so I would really like to know if this works)

1. You can run physx with just one nvidia gpu
2. You have to turn physx off with amd gpus so you dont have some of the physics stuff that you can get with a nvidia gpu. That only works with physx supported games though and there are not a lot of those these days
3.That is correct you can set a 750 ti to be a dedicated physics cardwith your 970.

Since so little games use physx i would advise you to sell your 750ti and get a 980 instead of a 970

1. No, it works fine with only one.
2. No. it will use your CPU. (CRUNCH!!!)
3. Yes and no. I found that my 970 rendered physx better alone and have seen reviews that said same. (exception where you have two cards the same and non-SLI)
