I believe the HP DVD 1135 is an IDE/PATA (the old type of connection interface) unit whereas the Dell Precision T3400 has (I think) the newer SATA connectors only (no IDE/SATA connectors).

You therefore need a SATA DVD Writer.

There is no 'Master','Slave' or 'Cable Select' jumpering to worry about with SATA drives, that concept is now obsolete as each SATA drive is on a separate data cable ( there is no more sharing the same data cable like IDE/PATA drives did).

Please let me know if any of my assumptions are wrong regarding the type of drive connectors on your Dell motherboard. My research tells me it has only SATA connectors, but I could be wrong.
