My initial plan is to get the MSI GTX 980Ti (most affordable yet packing some punch) and Benq BL3200PT 1440p monitor 60hz (32" with 12m/s RT not best color). Can't afford Acer XB270HU 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor but I could afford the Benq XL2720Z res 1080p 144hz monitor with good RT. Only con is that Benq X2720Z is only 1080p.

But then there's expert saying human eyes can't see difference beyond 60fps. On Youtube, I don't see much difference between GTX 980Ti, Fury X, R9 390X on games like GTA V, Fallout 4, Black Ops 3 in 1080p & 1440p gaming except for some color. Only GTX 970 & weaker GPU seems blunt with far less detailed.

If I opted for MSI R9 390X, I could get myself the Benq XL2730Z 1440p FreeSync 144hz monitor. I dropped Asus R9 Fury Strix because of 4GB VRAM and the early performance revealed in DX12 showed the R9 390X almost as good as the Fury X while GTX980Ti still superior.

So which should I go for? It intended for long term. Does higher FPS really matter or things will be great as long as I could go max settings under 1440p or 1080p gaming breaching certain fps equilibrium? No 4k as I don't intend to go CF or SLI. Monitor must be >27".

1) GTX980ti with 60hz Benq BP3200L large nice 32" screen 12m/s RT

2) R9 390X with Benq XL2730Z 1440p FreeSync 144hz monitor

Go for GTX 980ti, if you dont want nvidia then go for r9 390 without X, but don't take the X version, it just doesnt worth the money, so my opinion is r9 390 as the cheap one, if you can go higher, take gtx 980 or even gtx 980ti, this one will outperform both without any problem ;)

You have quite a dilemma. I'm honestly not sure which choice I would go for. I will say that the GTX 980 Ti is my current favorite GPU. At the same time, even though I haven't personally upgraded to 144 Hz or g-sync, I'm almost positive that it makes a tremendous difference. Every single person who I've heard push the rumor that there is no difference between 60 Hz or 144 Hz, has never owned or used a 144 Hz display. Most people sound ridiculous making that claim, that you can't tell the difference.

As the others say, the GTX 980ti outperforms r9 390(x), but I would invest in a good monitor instead.

GPU is something you change every 2-3 years, and the monitor 5-10 years.

If you can't get both 980ti and 1440p 144hz monitor, then I would go for the monitor first.
The GPU can wait till you get some more resources, or just get an r9 390.

Thanks everyone, all of you have voted for GTX980Ti. I'll grab this gpu this weekend.

Btw, if I forked out extra to get the Acer Gsync 144Hz monitor, what are the pros that I'll get? I have tried playing games on LED Sony 40" HDTV 1080p on my current GTX750 1gb, it was ok despite the poor RT stated in TV for gaming review. Well, the TV has more than 160hz alright. When comes to 60hz 32" monitor with better RT, how would it be?
