Are these CPU temperatures something to worry about?

Hi,

I built my first ever PC last December, and haven't really been looking at any details about my hardware's health since then...

However today I downloaded CPUID HWMonitor and looked at my CPU temps while I waited for a game to update, and my CPU temps were going all over the place, from around 45C up to 59C at one point.

Since the update finished, I currently have just this webpage open, and my temps have gone down to 31/32C pretty stable.

My question is, is it normal for the CPU to reach around 59C just for an update? Are they particularly CPU-intensive?

I was updating Smite (if that matters). Have I got a problem? I'm using a stock cooler, and the CPU is i5-4590. Any help is appreciated.

59C is perfectly fine, any number of processes could have been going on during the update etc, nothing to worry about.

You want to worry when you are running a game and see temps like 70-80

I can't speak to how CPU-intensive a software update it, but it could be. Get a stress tester like Prime95 and monitor your temps while it's running. That'll give you a better idea of temps under load.

Use ROG Realbench http://rog.asus.com/321702014/news/realbench-v2-2-available-to-download/ not Prime 95 for CPU stress/ benchmark! Prime 95 puts your CPU through ridiculous amount of abuse that is unnecessary.. Realbench is much more realistic and won't degrade the life of your CPU
