Transfer speed between computers much slower than internet download speed

I have a Zoom wireless router using 801.11n. My internet provider is Time Warner Cable. I have done quite a bit of work to optimize the placement of my router and ensure I have the correct settings. My wireless devices all usually get somewhere in the range of 30 - 40 Mbps download speed using an online tester which is fine.

My issue is with transfer of files between laptops. I have 2 laptops running Win 10 and one desktop running XP. When a file is copied using Win 10 to another device it gives you a window that allows you to display the details associated with transfer speed. The rate fluctuates but seems to average about 8 Mbps.

My question is why is the rate so slow? It does not seem logical that I couldn't get at least half of the internet download speed. Any advice?

Anyone????

Are you sure they are both stated in Mb/s (megabits per second)? Usually when copying a file it is stated in MB/s (megabytes per second). When doing network speed test they are usually quoted in Mb/s (megabits per second). So if you change 8MB/s to megabits per second you get 64Mb/s, which would be faster than your online download speeds.
See if that is the problem.
