New Intel Build

So, I am looking to build a new PC, for gaming and media uses. It has been a few years since I have built, and a bit behind now. Is an i5 still they way to go for gaming? And what would be the best motherboard to pair with one without breaking the bank?

i5 would be a good choice, yes, do you have a budget and what all will you be needing (i.e. any components you have you plan to reuse?

Right now (if you can find it for less than $260) the i5-6600k is the best i5 and works great for games. For the motherboard I would get a mid level ($100 - $160) z170 motherboard if you plan on overclocking (if not then don't get the k version), and a good h170 for non-overclock.

I was thinking about 500 dollars. I have an 850W PSU, and an R9-380x as of right now. I would like to get a higher resolution monitor eventually, but right now I have a 1080p monitor.
