MSI R9 390x 9GB
Asus p8p67 Pro
Corsair HX850 PSU

My GTX 570 finally bit the dust after 5 years of so. I picked up an MSI 390x and I am getting random reboots while in game.

Temps are currently fine with nothing in HW monitor is over 60 celsius. The 390 is currently running at 43 degrees steadily.

I have no OC on the CPU at this time but I am using turbo mode to get up to 3.8GHz. No issues with this in the past at all.

Currently running two monitors. I do a lot of alt tabbing in game to watch videos and what not, not signs of any consistent crashing related to that.

The reboots happen after about 40 mins in game and then occur seemingly at random while only in game. Monitoring temps at all time and the card never gets above 60 degrees.

Things I have tried:

-reseating the card
-using a different power outlet in my house
-using different power connectors/ports on PSU
-manually removing video driver and reinstalling
-cleaning out the PC/PSU (no dust at all in there)
-lower RAM voltage
-restoring BIOS to default settings
-lowering chasis fan profile
-disabling eco power mode in BIOS
-ran system file checker
-reinstalled chipset for the motherboard

At this point it clearly seems to be power related. I just disabled the automatic restart and absolutely no blue screens or driver failures have occurred since I installed the new video card.

I figured 850 watts is fine for this card but my guess is that the PSU is failing. figured I'd ask around before dropping some bones on a new one.

One thing I'll mention is that my last mobo was a deluxe p8p67 which crapped out of me after I dropped the case moving it and bent a pin.

Only other thing I can think of is that the CPU or motherboard are slowly going on me if it's not the PSU.

Thanks for any help! Any suggestions for a new PSU are appreciated as that's basically my next step after a format. Unfortunately I don't have an additional machine I can steal parts to verify at this time.

Hi there, I saw your thread and we have the same concern. As of right now, I betting it is the PSU, my temps are good and when I'm in game, i just need to lower the settings in order for my PC not to reboot while playing them. I also did what you did to your components as well. I would suggest a power supply brand like seasonic and superflower(but i don't own any of them, i really get to read excellent reviews about them mostly anywhere). Oh and I also dropped my PC too but my mobo's still fine. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
