To make this short I redid my gaming rig and I do this every 3 years. My single sister usually gets the old components but now her 13 old has discovered PC gaming and I'm having second doubts about my 3 year old ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 that always had a overclock @ 4.1 GHz with a FX 8320 while gaming. The other components where upgraded with in the last year and a half. I'm just worried about the board even though it never give me any trouble. Should I replace it or just use it again and hope they get a least 2 years out of it?

Yes I know it is 4 year old tech but for a hand me down and the parts still has some life left to them tech wise. Windows 10 pro is tied into the old board but do to the right connections I have a corporate copy of windows 7 pro with about 25 activations left on it so that is not a issue with the free upgrade to 10 still in effect. After doing 2 new Intel skylark builds for me and my family this month (old AMD gamming HTPC board went out just bought board, cpu, ram and power supply there) and my new build. We can't really afford more than $150 to drop in a rig for them. So as a budget gaming system this is still a great option for someone who can't afford it.

Go for it, will probably last another 4-6 years before the capacitors on the board will give out.

I was thinking the same seeing they have been using my old first generation AM2 Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe/Wireless Edition motherboard now for about 3 years now and I used it a good 4. So with that being said I'll order him a nice $50 to $100 case and pass it on down the road.
