Hello there, I'm new to the Tom's Hardware forums. I have a question about my RAM. Before I continue, here are my system specs. (Yes, I know it's old.)
Mobo: DFI Lanparty P45 T2RS Plus
RAM: 2GB Mushkin DDR2, 2GB Ramaxel DDR2 (Both 800MHz)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
GPU: nVidia GT 220 1GB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32Bit

So, as I was saying, when I go to my Computer's properties, it shows 4GB RAM (2GB Usable.) I have checked with CPU-Z which also tells me I have 4GB RAM installed. My BIOS also detects 4GB worth of RAM. Other than that, I have tested with "Maximum memory" from msconfig both checked and unchecked. Both did not work. On the hardware side, I have tried reseating the RAM, and slotting it in 1 at a time as well. It works well till 2GB, but when it exceeds 2GB, (i.e at 3GB installed, I got 3GB RAM (2GB Usable) again) things go wrong.

EDIT: If anyone knows where to get (or if there even is anymore) the latest BIOS update for my motherboard?

Solution
The first thing you need to to is to install a 64bit Windows, like Windows 7 Ultimate x64. A 32 bit windows will only be able to use up to 3,25 gb. You may see 2gb available because the system may reserve some of it for the video card or other resources.

Solution: Do a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
