I need an opinion on upgrades.

I bought an i5-4690k with an MSI Z97s SLI Krait edition motherboard a few months ago, and haven't put it into a new PC yet. That being said, I also have some dead ram that I need to replace. I haven't opened the CPU box yet, and the motherboard was a mobo returned to the retailer without the CD for bios, so I got it for $10 cheaper. Would it be worth trying to sell these and upgrade to skylake? I need new ram anyways, so I could upgrade to DDR4, right? Would it be worth the shipping and resale hassle? I don't have the money for a gpu yet, but I plan on getting a 980ti if/when the prices drop after Polaris/Pascal releases.

Its what i use in my Current build with my 3570K. Got it at 4.4Ghz on 1.128v's, Its pretty stable stuff and looks good as well. Go ahead and pick some up, id recommend it!

I wouldnt say itd be worth the trouble, performance difference is negligible and all you really get is some new niche features and a flashier motherboard, not to say the Z97 krait isnt pretty, it really is.

Just pick up some cheap 35$ 8 Gig set and youll be alright.

I dont think it would be worth the hasle unless you are going to get higher end components than you have now. Otherwise you are going to go through all that trouble just to do a lateral move to a new platform.

DDR4 wont bring you anything more than DDR3 will. Its FASTER but that means nothing when your programs dont take advantage of it. The Skylake i5 has a little more IPC than the haswell but I dont think its worth the trouble of taking a loss on your current chip just to pay more for the newest chip.

Yeah, agreed. Im pretty sure the IPC difference is what? +/- 4 or 5 percent?

I found some Kingston HyperX FURY kits, 2x 4gb (1866mhz). It also comes in White/Black for my themed build. This a good choice?
