Hey,

I'm thinking of getting the HyperX Cloud II headset to game on both PC and PS4. I know nothing about sound cards except that they will improve the audio.

Relevant PC Specs for reference:
Motherboard: 'MSI Z97 GAMING 5'
PSU: EVGA 650W 80+GOLD
PC Case: NZXT Phantom 410

1) Does my on-board sound produce good enough audio.

2) Would that matter if I use the USB sound card (that simulates 7.1) provided with the headset.

3) If I did get an internal sound card:
i) Does it matter if I plug in the headset into the PC case's headphone line-out or do I have to plug the headset directly into the sound card?
ii) Do you have any suggestions for sound cards? I'm not exactly sure what I should be looking for... I know Creative make good ones and that's about it haha.

4) Would I need a new PSU?

Please answer with the numbers just to make things simple.
I would like to say thank you in advance and that I truely appreciate your time and consideration for helping me out :)

Solution
1. The Coud II's are gaming headphones, and they do not require a new sound card since they do not require a lot of power.

2. Using an USB sound card shouldn't be a problem, and it can even reduce background noise produced by your motherboard.

3:1. If you get a sound card, you'd have to plug it into the sound card unless you can plug in the front IO into it directly somehow (Don't know if any sound card supports this)

3:2. A good sound card would be something from the Asus Xonar Series, but creative cards are good aswell. You don't need the best of the best though, and as i said, your on-board sound card will suffice.

4. No, your headphones will not require you to get a new PSU.

On Q4 I meant: if I was to get a new sound card would I need to get a new PSU? I am probably just going to get the headset but just for future reference would I?

My current PC spec:
i7-4790k
MSI GTX 970
16GB ram
Cooler Master 212 Evo
MSI Z97 Gaming 5
250GB Samsung Evo SSD
2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm
PSU: EVGA 650W 80+GOLD

Sorry for not answering, this is my secondary account, hence i didn't get any notifications.

I currently have more power hungry parts than you, and i use a 620 Watt psu (Bronze). Yet, i only use around 400-500 watts, so don't worry, you wont need to upgrade just yet, unless you're going SLI.
