Does Any Hard Drive Work With Any Laptop?

My hard drive died for my Toshiba Satellite S55-B5280 (Part No. PSPQ2U-00S00N) and I was wondering what I'd need to know to replace it? Can I get any brand like Hitachi or Western Digital or does I have to be the exact Toshiba hard drive that came with this laptop (which I do not trust after having 2 fail within 2 years)? If I can get any brand, what specs, if any, do I need to make sure the new one has to work with my laptop? Thanks so much for the help I really appreciate it

In a laptop the size is standardized to 2.5 inch but there are different heights. With a 2 year old laptop, you probably don't have to worry too much because they weren't trying to make laptops paper thin. But measure the existing disk for height.

Thanks for the response about the physical size of a hard drive. Is that all that matters? If my laptop came with a 5600 Toshiba drive I could put a 7200 Hitachi as long as the physical size is the same?

7200: For a slight increase in performance, it will run warmer, drain battery sooner, maybe somewhat noisier and added vibration.

Awesome thanks so much for the help guys I'll stick to a 5600 since my laptop usually gets pretty warm and has short battery already. And I'll look into SSD it sounds a lot better the only problem is price and space but I'll see what I thinks more important and make a decision now that I know I can get anything with the same physical size. Thanks again really appreciate it
