(UK) How common are those ridiculous sales you hear about on GPU/CPUs?

Im moving house in June and Im planning to build my PC after I move so dont have to transport it from my current home.
I already have most of money saved so I figure it would be good idea to keep my eye out for deals on my desired CPU and GPU (a GTX980 and a 6600k) instead of buying everything in one go.

But what is the likely-hood of me actually finding a good sale on these from now till June?

Solution
Regarding that CPU & motherboard, the prices likely won't change much in the next 4-5 months (I don't see that happening for DDR4 memory either). However, Nvidia is of course coming out with a replacement for the 970/980 GPUs this summer (Pascal, nobody knows exactly when yet), so prices for the 980 may drop, or they may go up actually, dependent on availability.

When the 680 was being replaced by the 770, prices did not drop of the 680 below what a new 770 cost. Same for the 770 when the 970 replaced it. Both both cards beat their predecessor, with the 970 beating down the 770 the most (25% or more boost in performance vs about 10% for the 680->770).

Ok so not much chance of saving money but a chance that Ill get more performance for the same price if I wait till Pascal?

I don't remember the UK having much as far as "ridiculous sales" on components, full stop unfortunately.

You're much better just to wait & see - I can't imagine it'll cost you any more than it does today, and with any luck might be slightly cheaper. If you buy any components now, and it turns out to be defective in 3/4 months when you actually go to use it, you'd have a more difficult job returning it to the retailer (which is usually the quick option) and would have to deal with the component manufacturer.

Fingers crossed Pascal is out and it lowers the price of the 980 you have your eye on, but don't bank on that.

If history is any indicator, yes. Especially from Nvidia in recent years. Not only better performance, but lower operating temps and lower power use. And leaked info (unconfirmed) says the wait will be worth Pascal as well. Two examples of the recent past:

1) Nvidia's $500(US) GTX 680 got beat by 10% with the $400 GTX 770.
2) Nvidia's $600 GTX 780 got beat by 25% plus with the $550 GTX 980.

Yes both the 680 and 770 did not drop much in price when the 770 and 970 cards came out respectively to replace them. Retailers/Etailers just let their inventory slowly get sold out (likely for straggler second card SLI buyers) with little price reductions.
