I want to set-up a completely separate Guest WIFI network using an old WRT54G router running under DD-WRT. I had it work but my main network is super slow on the upload so I must do something wrong.

My internet is coming from Bell Canada with a Sagecomm Home Hub 2000. I don't really like this router so I turned off the WIFI part on it and I'm using my Apple Airport Extreme as the main router.

So here is the setup:

Internet -> Fiber optic to home -> WAN Sagecomm Router -
From LAN 1 Sagecomm -> WAN Airport Extreme in bridge mode
From LAN 2 Sagecomm -> WAN WRT54G

Gateway on Sagecomm is 192.168.2.1

Setting on WRT54G for guest:
WAN Connection type
Connection Type: Static IP
WAN IP Address: 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Static DNS 1, 2 & 3 are 0

Network Set-up
Router IP
Local IP address: 192.168.3.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.3.1
Local DNS 192.168.2.1
DHCP Server enable

The wifi works on both network and I can't connect to the main network gateway (access to the sagecomm setting page) from the guest network which is what I want but my upload speed is really, really slow 0.5 Mb/s vs 19 Mb/s when I turn off the WRT54G....

Any help?

Any better idea?

WRT54G was a great router ten years ago. Back then, 1Mbps was considered great speed, and routers were designed with these speeds in mind.

For starter, you can start roubleshooting by connecting a wired device to the WRT54G, and check the speeds from there.

Being a slow Router for my guest network is OK but I don't believe it should slow down my Airport Extreme.
