So, i built this custom PC around 3 years ago. I've had some issues, but now it won't boot up at all. It had an issue where if im using it, it's fine, but after i shut it down i have to completely shut the power off from the switch, otherwise it won't start up again when i need it to unless i start it up immediately after i shut it down. This started around a year ago. I took that as a solution and kept shutting the power switch off everytime i was done with the PC.

Today, i left it and and when i came back it was shut down, and it won't boot up no matter what i do. The LED's on the back and on the mobo are on, but nothing happens when i press the power buttons on the motherboard or the front panel or when doing it manually (connecting the pins together with a screwdriver).

I'm not sure if it's a PSU problem or a mobo problem, any ideas?

Note: I've noticed that when playing some high-demanding games for a long time (6-9 hours), the games stop responding or crash. I don't know but it might be related? The sound coming off the PC makes it seem like it's really struggling for some reason, even though it shouldn't.

PC Specs:
Mobo: Asus maximus VI extreme
CPU: intel 4770K
graphic card: Geforce GTX 780
PSU: AX860
RAM: 32gb corsair vengance. (4 sticks)
and razer keyboard/mouse

Solution
It does sound like your PSU may have given out, but I would not assume the PSU fan is the loudest one in the mix. We don't know what game you played for 6-9 hours but depending on case ventilation, the GPU fan(s) found indeed have been the loudest thing in the case. The fact that the game stops responding or crashes but the computer didn't (you didn't say the computer died in that case) makes me think that after 6-9 hours (a) the GPU overheated (would cause loud fan and application crash), or (b) GPU could not get enough power to sustain load (points to PSU).

What kind of overclock were you running on you CPU and GPU?

By 'struggling' did you mean you hear something like wants to take off? If this is true then most of the time its the PSU's fan and a of a sign of a dying PSU.

Any other component fans will never be as loud as PSU's could.

I wonder if heat is an issue. When's the last time you took some air to the PSU? I would try cleaning it out first. If you haven't already, I'd also open up your case and make sure all your cables are plugged in nice and snug.

If that doesn't do it there are ways to test the power supply by itself, but you'll have to unplug everything. All you need is a paper clip. Here's a guide. http://www.seasonic.ru/tech-support/jump-start/

If the power supply doesn't respond at all you'll know that it needs replacement. If the power supply seems to start up just fine then it leads me to believe it's the mother board.

I hope you get working ok.

I definitely hear a LOUD fan sound when playing high-demanding games, and i have no idea if it's the case fans or the PSU fan. The processor doesn't get that hot when i play, so i don't see how it can put the fans on turbo because of CPU heat

I accidentally chose this as best solution... Anyway, i haven't really overclocked anything, and the 2 games i've had trouble with are blade and soul and fallout 4. If it's a GPU crash, wouldn't the desktop also crash, like shouldn't the screen go black for a second?
