So, first off first time posting anything in these forums but im very frustrated. My friend just built me a 2400 dollar gaming rig, ALL of my hardware is unlocked including the two strix 970's. My friend told me when he was doing updates it showed sli available. Then he shipped it to me..... He lives in Washington i live in Pennsylavnia. So it was on a truck for 2500 plus miles. When i got the computer the sli bridge was completely off and laying in the bottom of the case inside. I have ai suite and gpu tweak both installed. GPU tweak says sli is disabled with no way of enabling it. NVIDIA doesnt have sli anywhere in it and when i go to device manager it is only showing the one card. Please help i am at my wits end trying to figure out what to do. Thank you to all who take the time to nerd out with me and fix this issue i greatly appreciate it.

Computer specs

i7 4790k 4.0ghz
32 gb of kingston hyper x beast 2400 mhz ram
asus z97 deluxe mobo
2 strix 970 4gb cards at 256 bit

Thanks again

ok so update 2/19/2016. I tested each card individually to make sure i didnt have a dead card and they both work perfectly in top pci slot. I am hoping that i just got a bad sli bridge but something tells me its something else because device manager STILL isnt registering both 970's. I am about to RMA both 970's and just grab one 980 ti and call it a day. Any other thoughts thou i am struggling here. Also went into bios and there is NOTHING to enable sli or anything to do with pci slots. I NEED HELP PEOPLE PLEASE IM BEGGING!!

edit: NewEgg doesnt allow refunds on gpu so im screwed and stuck with these bricks, i need a hand people please help.

I think you are making a good decision. The best rule of thumb when it comes to graphics cards is to buy the best card you can afford at that time. There are all too many problems with SLI/CrossFire that it is not worth going through the struggle of even having them in your system. Simply buy the GTX 980 Ti, and have fun maxing out every game you own at 1080p, 1440p, or even 4K. And if you ever want to upgrade in the future you can just SLI the GTX 980 Ti's and you will be set for a long time. I think you are making a good choice, just make sure to get a high quality GTX 980 Ti that has a non-reference cooler. My friend has the GTX 980 Ti Hybrid from EVGA. It is an all in one liquid cooled card and it runs super quiet at around 60 degrees Celsius under load. It is a BEAST!! Here is the link to that, and best of luck with the new card.

Did you try upgrading to Windows 10? People are having lots of issues installing the latest drivers on Windows 7, so I would try that. If that doesn't work, the only advice I can tell you is play with one card. The GTX 970 is still a pretty powerful card so you should be able to max out most games at 1080p and play on decent settings at 4K or 1440p.

Yes, you could also try ordering a new SLI bridge from Nvidia or Asus. Once you get that you could try SlI-ing them again and hopefully it will work *fingers crossed*

I didn't hear if you did what Mousemonkey suggested, in particular reinstall the latest Nvidia drivers. Did you try a new SLI bridge?

Your motherboard BIOS has a setting for selecting PCIe over on-board, but says nothing about SLI (Advanced > Graphics Configuration > Primary Display).

The other thing is to check the PCIe slots. You said you tried the top slot, but what about the other one(s)?
