I recently bought two cheap laptops off Ebay and did a clean install of windows 7 Ultimate service pack one on both of them.

I ran into a big problem windows would not update at all just kept searching for updates forever.

Ended up researching solutions , among the many proposed i finally stumbled across two separate posts which fixed it for me , so to save you time this is the solution if you have the same problem

Manually install the update client kb3083710 first and then do the same with KB3102810

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083710

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3102810

There are over 200 updates on service pack 1 so i would recommend you install 50 per time to avoid memory issues on older machines starting with the security updates,

Hope this helps someone

I suggest you review each one before you download any of them for install you may find some that can botch or just not needed or unwanted

The same problem occurred on all three different machines i installed win 7 on same updating loop until i manually installed the patches posted.

Obviously its up to you which updates to download and which to hide ,you can always uninstall any you don't want like the win 10 crap'ola at a later date ,just seems like to much trouble to go through every single one of the 200+ important updates to figure out whether to install it..

more then having to go back a dig them out when something goes wrong .really ?? best to never let them make it in to start with [check for updates but let me decide weather to download and install them] or never check and do it manually when you see fit to check them

ya, cant understand why things don't work LOL..... to each his own I guess

Did you actually read you read what i wrote? before hijacking this thread and turning it into a rant about updates?.

Again - CLEAN OEM install of Win 7 service pack one will not update WITHOUT KB3083710
and WITHOUT installing KB3102810 update will take days or will not update at all.

YES you CAN choose which updates to download and install and hide the ones you DON'T want or are PARANOID about.

All important updates were installed onto three different laptops without issues.

Thank you and goodnight.
